We have 4 sons – all of whom have attended Stamford since January 2011– ranging from 1st grade to 7th grade.
We wanted our children to have the comfort of American culture, but also to have an international experience. We also felt strongly that they learn a second language and Stamford has daily language classes.
We visited several schools during a preview visit to Singapore. We chose Stamford because of the intimate, community feel that was immediately apparent, as well as the language program and the IB blended curriculum. We also felt that the American International cultural emphasis would provide an enriching experience.
We are very impressed with the IB learner profile and have watched our boys gain a sense of pride and ownership regarding their educational experience, which has occurred under the blended IB and American curriculum. 3 of our boys are speaking Mandarin well, and 1 is speaking Spanish well after a short period of language instruction. The boys have truly expanded their horizons through extracurricular activities such as drama (they just performed ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ – which was phenomenal), community service, movie making, and many different sports.
I have found the teachers to be very open and caring, and have very good communication with each of the 4 boys’ teachers. The boys also rave about their teachers themselves and look forward to school and seeing not just their friends, but their teachers as well.
My boys seem to like everything about school. They all enjoy ICT – especially the school’s 1 to 1 iPad Program in the Elementary School and the 1 to 1 MacBook Program for Middle Schoolers and High Schoolers is a favorite! They also enjoy their art classes and music classes.
Moving to Singapore is our first expat assignment and we felt strongly that the right school was an extremely important part of this incredible experience for our children.
We wanted them to feel comfortable, make friends, get a great education and have a great time doing it. Stamford American International school has thus far provided the perfect environment for them to not only make friends with children from all over the world, but to experience and enjoy cultural differences, as well as familiarities, all while getting an incredible education in a safe and comfortable community atmosphere.
